Francis L. Hutchins, Jr., M.D., FACOG is a gynecologist, consultant, researcher, and lecturer on women's health.  He has a consultative gynecology (second opinions, etc.) practice in suburban Philadelphia.  In addition to general gynecology, his practice specializes in the management of uterine fibroids and other non-cancerous gynecologic disorders without using major surgery.

He is a renowned uterine fibroid expert and is sometimes referred to as the “Fibroid King”.

He has written numerous articles published in major medical journals as well as book chapters.  He is the author of  “The Fibroid Book” and "The Fibroid Book 2nd Edition- A Guide to Treating the Most Common Cause of Hysterectomy".

His medical background includes multiple appointments to medical school faculties:  Temple University, Hahnemann University, Allegheny University of the Health Sciences, and Thomas Jefferson University.  Dr. Hutchins has always had a passion for helping to educate women about uterine fibroids.  He believes that every woman should be aware of all the available uterine fibroid treatments, so that they can make an informed decision on which treatment is best for their particular medical situation.

Dr. Hutchins, Dr. R.P. Berkowitz, a Gynecologist, and Dr. Worthington-Kirsch, an Interventional Radiologist, in 1999, published the largest individual case series in the world literature reporting 305 consecutive Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) cases – “Selective Uterine Artery Embolization as Primary Treatment for Symptomatic Leiomyomata Uteri”, J Am Assoc Gynecol Laparos 1999.

Dr. Hutchins and Dr. Robert Worthington-Kirsch were the second Gynecologist and Interventional Radiologist team in the United States to begin performing Uterine Artery Embolization treatment for fibroids in the second half of 1996.  Dr. Hutchins and Dr. Worthington-Kirsch published the largest case series of 53 UAE patients in the English medical literature at that time – “Uterine Arterial Embolization for the Management of Leiomyomas:  Quality-of-life Assessment and Clinical Response”, Radiology 1998.

Dr. Fernando Sant’Anna and Dr. Paulo Barrozo, from Cold Cabo, RJ, traveled to the United States in June of 1999 to meet with and observe his management techniques for fibroids at his practice, The Hutchins Institute for Women’s Health and Roxborough Memorial Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to learn the technique of embolization.
