Assia Stepanian, MD 1140 Hammond Dr. Assia Stepanian received her medical degree in Moscow at the I. M. Sechenov Medical Academy in 1992. She completed an OB-GYN residency at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Center for Perinatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology in 1994. Since her arrival to the US in 1994, she was involved in multiple research projects both in Russia and in the United States and in 2005 completed an OB-GYN residency at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC. She was rewarded and completed an AAGL /SRS Fellowship in Gynecologic Endoscopy under Dr. Thomas Lyons in Atlanta. She is an accomplished endoscopist and a diligent researcher. She is the author or coauthor of many articles in both Russian and American Medical Journals on the topics of Pelvic Reconstruction, Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, abnormal uterine bleeding, fluorescence in gynecology, and sterilization procedures. She is currently a reviewer for the Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology and a member of the CME, Resident and Fellows, and the Scientific Poster Committees of the AAGL. Her presentations at international meetings included also subjects on treatment of uterine fibroids and genitourinary malformations, and robotic surgery. She has been trained by her mother, Dr. Leila Adamyan, the developer of various techniques in treatment of genitourinary malformations. Dr. Stepanian performs these procedures in the United States. Due to her interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, she sought training in MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery for treatment for uterine fibroids and is now a primary investigator for an associated study. After completion of her AAGL/SRS Fellowship, Dr. Stepanian joined Dr. Thomas Lyons at the Center for Women’s Care and Reproductive Surgery, Atlanta, GA, where she is currently in practice.
