I was diagnosed with uterine fibroid disease July 2001.  An ultrasound test in July confirmed my uterus to be the size of a 14- week pregnancy.

On September 6, 2001, another ultrasound was done and the results showed my uterus had grown to the size of a 16-18 week pregnancy with two uterine fibroids measuring the size of a regular orange and a clementine orange.  I had the Uterine Artery Embolization (i.e. UFE) procedure performed September 6, 2001.

At the TWO-MONTH Post Procedural check-up the ultrasound result was the following:

  • Pre-UAE uterus volume (size of 16-18 weeks) was ~ 479cc, was down to ~ 331cc, which is a 31% REDUCTION.
  • Fundal (fibroid-located at top of uterus) volume had been ~ 74cc and had gone down to  ~ 24cc, which is a 68% REDUCTION.

The experience of uterine fibroids, Uterine Artery Embolization, and the unfair practices of some doctors has made me become an advocate for designing and developing this uterine fibroid web site.  Through my experiences I have a better understanding how stressful uterine fibroid disease can be and thanks to my support group, (Mike, Dr. Kirsch, Patty), I was able to go through the discovery, research, treatment decision, therapy (UAE), and recovery process.  I feel very strongly that a support group is helpful and everyone that needs the support should ask for it.

Another part of my research showed me that not enough  is being written on the subject and so Dr. Kirsch and I wrote several articles on the Uterine Artery Embolization procedure to help inform women and men about the procedure.

I also became actively involved in working with personnel in the Health and Human Services Committee of Pennsylvania asking for support of uterine fibroid research, education, and legislation.

I look forward to hearing from women and men expressing their ideas, opinions, and questions.

I wish each of you good health and happiness.
