Uterine Fibroids: There are
two tests that may help determine the risk of sarcoma before
surgery.
A blood test for total LDH and LDH iso-enzymes,
and a specially timed MRI with gadolinium has been described
and we have used the test successfully for the past 7 years.
The radiologist needs to follow the
description of the MRI procedure carefully - it is described
in the article by Goto A, Usefulness of Gd-DTPA
contrast-enhanced dynamic MRI and serum determination of LDH
and its isozymes in the differential diagnosis of
leiomyosarcoma from degenerated leiomyoma of the uterus.
