Menstrual Clots: What Do They Mean? by Dr. Albee

Women's Biological Clock Revealed: Hormone May Predict Age A Menopause  - 4/27/08  "Age at menopause may now be predicted more realistically according to a new study accepted for publication in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM). The study revealed that anti Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels are related to the onset of menopause and are able to specify a woman's reproductive age more accurately than chronological age alone."

Ovary removal may raise Parkinson's risk - 1/23/08  NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Women who undergo removal of one or both ovaries prior to menopause appear to be at increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease or similar conditions, investigators report.

Did you know?  For those patients having a hysterectomy and leaving the ovaries, there is roughly a 10% chance of having another operation at some point (for any reason) specifically because the ovaries were left.  Removing your ovaries does NOT eliminate your risk of ovarian cancer. There is a form of ovarian cancer called "primary peritoneal carcinoma" that can still affect you even if your ovaries are removed.

Did you know?  Hysterectomy Induced Menopause  - Overweight women can make a mild form of estrogen in their fatty tissues and can live off this estrogen for a while, and thus not be symptomatic even though the woman was not taking any additional estrogen. Now, if the woman has lost some weight or altered her metabolism via exercise or medications, she can then have "less endogenous estrogen production", and her system will now become somewhat more symptomatic.

FDA Orders Pharmacies To Stop Making False Claims About Custom-Made Hormones To Treat Menopause - 1/11/2008 - FDA on Wednesday sent letters to seven pharmacies that sell custom-made "compounded bioidentical" hormone products over the Internet to menopausal women and ordered the companies to stop making false and misleading claims about the compounds' benefits.

CDC Urge Women To Take Folic Acid -1/11/2008 - Folic Acid is a B vitamin that helps to prevent birth defects. Women who have enough folic acid in their bodies before they get pregnant, and get enough while they are carrying the baby, minimize the risk that their child will have a birth defect of the brain or spine.
